Visa Information

The visa-on-arrival policy is something that has made traveling to Nepal much easier. You can choose to submit an online visa application form prior to your flight to Nepal, or you can just work it out after you land at the international airport in Kathmandu. Since peak tourist season might force you to line up for the tourist visa application at the airport, you can alternatively submit an online application beforehand.

Foreign nationals visiting Nepal for enjoyment or tourism are granted a tourist visa. Upon your initial entry into Nepal, a tourist visa will be granted to you, irrespective of your intended agenda. The Nepal Department of Immigration will then allow you to modify the kind of visa you are issued based on your purpose and length of stay in the country.

For instance, if you want to work in Nepal, you must apply to the Department of Immigration to convert your tourist visa into a work visa; otherwise, you won’t be able to work or remain in Nepal for an extended period of time.

Requirements for Tourist Visa

• Your original passport with no fewer than two blank visa pages, valid for a minimum of six months
• Copy of your passport’s private details page
• Minimum of one recent passport-sized photo of oneself on a white background, measuring 1.5 by 1.5 inches. It is advisable to take multiple copies, though, since you will require them for any future uses, fee payment, and visa extension.
• The completed electronic and printout Nepal Visa Application Form, duly signed
• Evidence of payment for the Nepal visa (Bank receipt)
• Return tickets
• Proof of accommodation for the entire duration of their stay

Depending on why you are traveling, the documentation you present when you arrive may vary. Therefore, it is advisable that you finish the application process online before leaving for Nepal since doing so will ensure that you have the precise paperwork you need when you show up for your appointment with the immigration authorities.

In Kathmandu, you must submit an application for a visa at the Nepal Department of Immigration if your trip is for something other than tourism. The necessary paperwork for the kind of visa you’re applying for must be with you.

Visa Fees

You are obligated to pay the visa fee at the prescribed location after printing your Nepal visa application form. You don’t actually have to visit a bank; there is a bank counter within the airport where you will be guided on how to proceed. The cost of your visa varies based on how long you want to stay in Nepal. Here are the recent fees:

Visa Extension

The Department of Immigration’s Kathmandu office is where you may extend your tourist visa. The Immigration Department’s Kathmandu office is the only one that grants both non-tourist and tourist visas. The Pokhara Immigration Office is authorized to renew visitor visas only.

Before your tourist visa concludes, you must request an extension of time. You will be deemed to have overstayed your visa if you apply later, and you may be fined, imprisoned, or even arrested. For USD 45, you may renew a tourist visa for an additional 15 days. For each day after that, you will be charged an extra $3.

Recent Policy Update

From Jan 24, 2024, the Immigration Department started enforcing a number of new rules for visitors and tourists. As to the Immigration Department, holders of these visas now need to have a passport that is valid for at least six months. In addition, they need to provide the necessary paperwork, such as the travel visa for the country of destination, return tickets, evidence of lodging for the whole stay, or citizenship documents proving they are living with family if they are.

Apart from these prerequisites, those who are invited by organizations to drop by also need to present a letter of invitation from the relevant organizations or demonstrate their financial stability by presenting proof of no less than $500 in cash or an equal amount in bank accounts.
